At Syed Modi International tournament final in Lucknow, Sourabh Verma was defeated by the Chinese player, Wang Tzu Wei. The two had a 48-minute match with Sourabh having the lead at first but soon was in a head to head clash with Tzu Wei. The two were tired for a while, trying to find weaknesses and waiting for faults on the others' part. While the round continued with many highs and lows, Sourabh lost the first round after making an error in his judgment at the backline, and Tzu Wei was able to take advantage of this error. The second round was disappointing for Sourabh as he struggled to score, even though he got his footing back soon the round was filled with ups and downs as both the players scored and engrossed everyone in their chase for a lead. Every time Saurabh was able to gain a lead, Tzu Wei would fire back with more force in his shots. While Tzu Wei managed to hold the lead for a while, Sourabh was able to bounce back and vice versa. Even though they were tied near the end, Tzu Wei managed to take the lead and win when Sourabh went long. Sourabh couldn't perform his best in the finals after defeating the Korean player, Heo Kwang Hee, in an impressive 75-minute match in the semifinals.
