Latest updates say that Google recently fired four of its employees and other workers are not happy with the decision. Employees at Google are now saying that the move shows Google is trying to discourage them and not allowing them to organize their own work. The four employees who were terminated were tagged ‘Thanksgiving Four’. Reports further say that four of them got their contracts terminated on Monday. The software giant released a statement for its employees explaining that ‘Thanksgiving Four’ were terminated following some security reasons. On the contrary, ‘Thanksgiving Four’ said that they were fired for “speaking out”.
The termination was followed by a demonstration at San Francisco office of Google on Friday. Around 200 Google employees participated in order to express their disagreement about the termination. Two of the terminated employees, Laurence Berland and Rebecca Rivers spoke during the protest. The authenticity of the released memo was confirmed by Google. The software bigwig refused to comment further on the issue.
The security and investigation team of Google said the four of them were “wrongly accessing” important information about other projects and employees, for that matter.
The memo said –
"Our thorough investigation found the individuals were involved in systematic searches for other employees’ materials and work”.
"This includes searching for, accessing, and distributing business information outside the scope of their jobs - repeating this conduct even after they were met with and reminded about our data security policies.”
"This information, along with details of internal emails and inaccurate descriptions about Googlers’ work, was subsequently shared externally."
Earlier, Google was considered the most “employee-friendly” organization. Recent development tell another story.
