The Progressive Party, considered to be more left-leaning than the Democratic Party of Korea, which holds the majority in the National Assembly, and the Justice Party, has returned to the National Assembly.

Rep. Kang Sung-hee won 39 percent of the vote in Jeonju, a liberal constituency in North Jeolla Province, on Wednesday in a by-election, defeating her Democratic Party-affiliated opponent, who received 32 percent.
