Designed by the Italian Studio Vudafieri-Saverino Partners, Spica’s interiors mix Asian influences with references to the nice Milanese designs, leading to a lively, thoughtful and vibrant atmosphere. The two celebrity chefs, Indian Ritu Dalmia and Italian Viviana Edgard Varese, share a standard passion for world cuisines. The edifice celebrates their love for world foods, providing a culinary art journey through four geographical areas—Southeast Asia, India, Europe, and America.
Spica is situated in an industrial building with six massive windows on a vivacious city street in an inner yard. Vudafieri-Saverino Partners has enhanced the pre-existing house of the edifice. Spica retains evident signs of the past, like the seeded floor (integrated with cement within the missing parts) and a wall brought back to its natural look where the layers of time are evident.
In their respect to Milanese tradition, Vudafieri-Saverino Partners have combined the liberty and radical style of Ettore Sottsass, along with his deep passion for India, and also the class and rigor of the modern movement of Franco Albini. The interiors and furnishings of the edifice showcase 2 distant worlds—Italy and India, that act harmoniously. At the doorway of Spica, guests are greeted by a powerful 8-meter-long bar impressed by the Milanese ones of the 60s, with its old glass background, powdery brass high and long suspended bottle rack for the cocktail station.
The large ceiling lamps in the eating area, designed by Andrea Anastasio evoke the shapes of typical Indian agricultural implements. The furnishings used as a station creates an enthralling corner with the picket floor and plants on gravel, giving the sensation of being in an exceedingly garden. Spica’s lavatory conjointly stands out with its contemporary and kooky atmosphere. The lavatory options geometric wallpapers and bright colors alongside an extended washbasin with one sink and laminate shell and picture Seletti mirrors. The mirrors celebrate prints on them adding to the bathroom’s offbeat ambiance.
