A spike in service prices drove up wholesale inflation more than economists had predicted in September.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics stated on Wednesday that wholesale price increases of 0.4% in September were beyond market expectations.

When compared to August's gain of 0.3%, this is a huge jump.

The PPI increased 8.5% over the previous 12 months, somewhat less than the 8.7% increase seen in August.
