Abuse-inducing provisions remain in place, while new measures tighten rights restrictions

Human Rights Watch today warned that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) wide-ranging legal reforms in late 2021 fail to address the country's long-standing and systemic restrictions on citizens' and residents' civil and political rights. The new laws keep in place earlier restrictions while also adding new ones that endanger fundamental human rights.
