On the onset of Christmas, amongst products for Christmas decoration and ornaments, Amazon had a range of products that displayed images of the concentration camp.
These concentration camp images belonged to the Auschwitz Nazi death camp. In World War II, millions of people were killed here and it was the largest of all the Nazi concentration camps.
Various images featured from Auschwitz included - the buildings where it housed victims - mainly Jews, the barbed wire fences, the railway line leading to its infamous gates etc.
The products that featured these images were mouse pad, bottle opener and tree decorations.
Poland's Auschwitz Memorial tweeted "disturbing and disrespectful" merchandise on these products and asked the retailer to remove it.
Following the tweet, Amazon withdrew the said products and responded stating "products in question have been removed".
Amazon said, "All sellers must follow our selling guidelines and those who do not will be subject to action, including potential removal of their account.".
The memorial and the museum later acknowledged Amazon’s move and posted an update on twitter stating the same.
The post attracted thousands of retweets. Social media users found it inappropriate and disturbing.
Memorial and the museum representatives thanked social media users for their “activity and response”.
