Paull Allen who is Co-founder of Microsoft published results of experiment with great elephant’s census around 2 years ago. This was an effort to count Savannah elephants in Africa. what the results found really rocked the conservation world. Between 2007 in 2014, Population of elephants was decrease by about the third and was about to vanish completely from some African countries.
Researchers were able to use artificial intelligence technology to reverse this trend, which really help them to rewrite the rules for everything which we are doing for household appliances, through AI. Ability of artificial intelligence can help in finding patterns and gathering information which then further can be used to modify behaviour.
This technology was used to gather huge amount of information that was able to find where the elephants were how many of them where there and ideally it helps us to understand what exactly they are doing. This helped the researchers to identify why the numbers are decreasing at what location the numbers are decreasing and what is the reason of decrease in the numbers.
Researchers divided complete forest into grids. Then, the team hung the custom sound recorders with separation of distance around 30 feet among the trees. their location was just little higher then where the elephants could reach with their trunk. After every 3 months, they were changing batteries of those recorders, and insert new audio cards and start over again.
In recording three months in jungle the gadget captured huge data. It would not have been possible by any graduate students. It was a challenging task how to recognise only required audio information amongst so much of noisy environment in the jungle and that's what artificial intelligence help them to do exactly.
