As a means of avoiding power outages this winter, France has begun a "sobriety" energy savings push.

Some of the measures taken by France include lowering the heating temperature in homes and offices to no more than 19 degrees Celsius, eliminating the use of hot water in public buildings, turning off all advertising lights at night, prohibiting the leaving of doors open in stores with heating or air conditioning, and lowering the temperature in swimming pools and gyms.
