Autonomous Grocery Delivery is an innovative concept that delivers groceries at your doorstep with the help of automated self-driving vehicles. Kroger, a leading retailing company in the United States was the first to come up with this unique concept.
We might have added a bit of convenience to our grocery shopping by going online or through a simple call to our local vendor instead of going out and actually doing the shopping physically. Whatever might be the scenario, the end result of both of these is a rider coming up with our grocery at our doorstep. As this can be convenient, it is not as cool as an autonomous robot bringing our grocery to us.
US based grocery store giant Kroger announced a partnership with self-driving car startup Nuro. With this, the company is now offering what can be considered as cool and futuristic delivery service to its consumers by officially going driverless.
An unmanned on-road vehicle called R1 brings the grocery for those that order from Kroger. The vehicle has been designed to take lesser space on the road than any of the passenger cars. The R1 has also been specifically designed for this purpose and from the ground up, thus it also offers convenience in loading and unloading the groceries.
This concept can see the light of the day only in the US because when it comes to India and our roads, which are not a location where you would want an autonomous vehicle loaded with groceries roaming around. Also, there is not exactly a need to do away with the conventional rider coming to our home and delivering the grocery to your doorstep.
