Brigitte Giraud, 56, was awarded the Goncourt Prize, France's highest literary honor, on Thursday for her work 'Vivre Vite.'

Giraud's book chronicles the events that led to her husband's death in a motorcycle accident in 1999. Bookmakers had Giraud as the second favorite to win the prize.

She is the first female novelist to win the Goncourt since Lela Slimani's "Chanson douce" in 2016, and ....
