Roger Federer is considered a master in the game of tennis, but even he is not immune to the new talented faces coming in the game and steamrolling their senior competitors just like Serena Williams had faced in the US Open finals. Somehow the master has managed to dodge a bullet from the Italian Mateo Berrettini on Tuesday here at the ATP finals tournament. He had earlier faced defeat in his campaign against Dominic Thiem in the opening round of the tournament, and this loss had poised the way for an early exit for the six-time champion, but by the skin of his teeth, he has managed to stay put and survive to fight another day.
Berrettini, on the other hand, was also coming off a defeat handed over to him by Novak Djokovic in the opening round of the tournament, which was also the Italians first appearance in the series. Berrettini is the first Italian to have qualified for the tournament since 1978 had put a formidable challenge in front of Djokovic, but the champ won the match.
Roger Federer had won his match 7-6(2) and 6-3 in two of the three sets but you can see why it was a difficult stance for the six-time world champ as the first set had both of them equally poised at 6 points each and the game went on for what seemed forever from that point onwards, the Italian pushed Roger to his limits before his form took a beat and he lost his ground in the second set of the game.
