With much research on cancer, as it is one of the most severe and deadliest diseases worldwide, different research teams and groups have reached different approaches to handle, treat or prevent cancer. The latest news in this field is concerned with a team of US and Australian researchers from the University of Queensland and Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
They researched and discovered a method which discovers certain genes that may lead to cancer. One main gene discovered was directly associated with breast cancer. The study has helped the team to be able to create a statistical study showing the different genes leading to different cancers. This discovery can help discover cancer before it even happening, aiding potential patients to be able to find it in earlier stages that can still be treated.
An Associate Professor from the University of Queensland’s Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology named Jess Mar revealed that many oncogenes showed relation to certain cancer types. He stated, “When you average the data across those patients, those common oncogenes tend to stand out, but they don’t paint the full picture. Even if a group of people all have the same type or even subtype of cancer, the molecular makeup of that cancer is different from person to person because the activity of genes vary between people.”
This study is expected to move further on, in hopes to try to amend genes or reshape them. When the technology is developed enough, it is expected that a cure for cancer will be available.
