The government announced a new scheme that is under consideration for allotting green number plates to electric vehicles, in a bid to move the country towards the net-zero emission targets agreed to in the Paris agreement.
The green plate is to identify the electric vehicles and promote them in the economy; this new scheme will have extra perks for electric vehicle owners, thus prompting the populous to shift towards the electric vehicle market.
The department of transport (dot) hopes that the scheme under advisement shall help in ensuring a large number of non-zero emission vehicles shall be put out of the road, and a new path can be paved for the greener vehicles to adhere to the alignment of the country towards net-zero emissions.
If adopted, these number plates can be used to provide owners with benefits like free parking spaces, cheap recharging costs, and a host of other perks.
Some environmentalists’environmentalists’ still believe that green number plates aren’t a sufficient platter for the large appetite of the British, atop of the extra costs involved with owning an electric car and the Brexit woes happening in the country, the solution is far from perfect but yet a step in the right direction.
Too little too late seems to be a tendency of governments across the globe to deal with climate change problems, especially when the world is looking up to an empire on which the sun never set.
