Nine people have been confirmed dead and at least 440 were infected with a Sars virus that was originally reported less than a month ago in the central Chinese city of Wuhan.
On Wednesday, after the authorities in China announced that the death rate was increased from six overnight, the World Health Organization met to decide whether the epidemic was an international emergency of public health.
