Twitter had announced of completely shunning out political advertisements from the 22nd of November this year, and there was a lot of flak faced by the company for the allegations of content moderation and caste-based bias, which the people said were evident in the actions of the tech giant. Mastodon is eating the fruits of Twitter’s faults as it is a similar platform to Twitter or Tumblr where users can make their profiles and post messages, images, or videos to interact with each other.
People are shifting to this lesser-known rival thick and fast, and according to reports, Mastodon was amongst the top twitter trends when people announced their new accounts while encouraging others to do the same. The difference in the two social media platforms is while one tweets on Twitter and has a limit of about 140 characters to summarise what she or he has to say, that character limit in the rival app is about 500 characters, and the term for posting is ‘toot’ which is equivalent of a tweet.
The main reason people are shifting to this platform is that it is a decentralized open-source platform meaning that there isn’t anyone server that is responsible for converging every data piece entered on this platform and also that no one company is totally in control of running the platform which essentially means that the data moderation facilities that the company have are limited, and it is the users choice to interact within the server or all the global servers at once which gives it the competitive edge in the market.
