The accounts of former Netflix users were reactivated without their consent even after they had canceled their subscription months ago.
Since Netflix wanted to make rejoining easier for their customers the customer data including billing details was held for 10 months.
Netflix says the information is available to members that email requests can be made to delete their information, for them who choose to cancel.
This has raised a concern that without knowing users' bank details criminals can log in to dormant accounts and reactivate them.
One such similar incidence happened with Ms. Emily Keen from Oxford. She shared the incidence details.
In April 2019, she canceled her Netflix service, but in September found that her account had been charged £11.99 by Netflix.
She then tried to log in to her account but email and password set by her were not recognized which in turn meant that criminals signed her account up and changed her login details.
She was told that refund will be made to her and her card would be blocked however only a part has been refunded to her till now while Netflix took two more payments in November and October.
Other former Netflix subscribers have similar complaints and it has also created a banter on Twitter.
