Lee Jae-yong, the de facto leader of the Samsung Group and the grandson of its founder Lee Byung-chul, was appointed chairman of Samsung Electronics on Thursday. Earlier in the day, the board authorized his elevation.
The 54-year-old, who succeeds his founder-grandfather and his father Lee Kun-hee, is the third chairman of the top memory chip manufacturer in the world.
