Solar energy is vastly growing due to the energy problems our world is facing. With the high use of solar cells, there has been a lot of research going on ways to make the system as efficient as possible. Within these researches, a new approach has been discovered, b which they control light emitted from crystal semiconductors. This discovery is expected to lead to a better efficient alternative rather than solar cells. The use of new hybrid crystal by the name of “Perovskites” was the initial point of the discovery, which uses a combination of organic and non-organic material. When a laser is used on the material, researchers were able to control the light emitted from it. This control mechanism can allow humans to increase the light emitted through voltage adjustment. Increasing the intensity, increases the energy generated from the material and in turn the electrical power reaching the appliance. This is an efficient, cheap and green way to produce electrical energy from sun; directly competing with currently common solar cells. Hybrid Perovskites are more ready to be commercialized compared to solar cells, due to its availability and easy extraction. Further researches are being conducted which will investigate different types of the substance; looking for the most efficient form, where light emission can be controlled. This research was led by a professor called Vitaly Podzorov, in the Department of Physics and Astronomy in the School of Arts and Sciences at Rutgers University-New Brunswick.
