The steel manufacturers SSAB, the mining company LKAB & the energy company Vattenfall are the brains and the deep pockets behind this hybrid initiative that the energy world has obsessed about in the past, be it climate week in NYC or the UN Climate Action Summit in New York, hybrid was invited to the climate summits to talk and portray the net-zero emission in the iron and steel industry.
The sustainable development goals of the EU have been set and Sweden is pegged to achieve the net-zero emission targets by 2045. In order for this to be a realistically attainable goal, the iron and steel industry have to up their games and this is where the hybrid occupies the center stage. The aim of the initiative is not just to reduce the dependence of fossil fuel in the refining process, but a clear vertical integration of fossil-free process to produce, refine, mine and extract iron and steel.
The coke powered electricity which is soon to be replaced by renewable and clean sources of energy like hydro, wind, solar and hydrogen-based energy generation will limit the extent of carbon emission per capita not only in Sweden but across Europe and the remainder of effluent and emission that shall be left will be water after the process of refining and extraction of the ore.
The hybrid initiative is implemented within the framework of industrial life, the government's long term investment of SEK 300 million per year which is necessary to sustain the necessary engine for research and development, the purpose of leadership group is to accelerate the transition to reduce carbon dioxide radiations in line among the purposes of the Paris arbitration and other SDG set forth by European Union and Sweden as a group leader in clean and renewable energy sources.
