The CHIC project in Europe is the epitome of the research projects that are carried out in Europe in the field of developing new plant breeds using various scientific techniques and both technological and cultural remittance to link the development with the heritage of Europe.
Dirk Bosch is a Dutch biochemist who is leading the projects work in the development of new chicory species and further gene-segmentation so that suitable adjustments can be made in order for quick breeding and better suited for specific purposes.
Chicory plants have varied usages from addition to the day to day coffee powder to making insulin and excessive medicinal usages.
The chief explained that the interesting part about the chicory plant is the root structure of the plant, which creates food fibers, which are essential for the development of any plant. The further we try and understand the root structure and the gene sequencing of the more it puzzles the researchers.
The root along with other parts of the plants can be used for a lot of medical usages and is very good for the gut of humans, it is also used in yogurts and gran bars, and that is the aim of this project that is being coordinated by Dirk Bosch, providing economical solution to the medical needs of the world with plant research and gene therapy attached to the research to achieve the sustainable development goals of the future for the world.
