The late world-class ballerina— who collaborated with legendary Rudolph Nureyev and Mikhail Baryshnikov— was embalmed in New Jersey ten days after succeeding in cancer in April 2009, The Post discovered last week after canvassing crematoria in the metro.
As per the Manhattan funeral director who managed the preparations with the Rosehill Crematory in Linden, New Jersey, the cremation cost $155, and her ashes were packed in a cardboard box and given to her husband-manager Michael Gregori.
At the time of Evdokimova's death, Gregori sent out a paid death notice that his wife's "festival of life and work" was being prepared "with all the big ballet companies around the world." The announcement said that a private service would be accompanied by a burial at the historic Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx.
The graveyard claims that she is not interred there, and her parents, long estranged from Gregori, never found a place to pay their respects. Boris Santini, the half-brother of Eva, called the grand funeral "a major joke." They had never known whether she had been buried or cremated.
Reached and asked about the location of the ashes of his mother, Gregori replied, "Surely in the future, you have no access to any personal information from me. Wait for movies, books, posts." Response from Santini: "Why the lies? Why is this subterfuge?”
