World’s worst nuclear disaster site, Fukushima is going through a change and is getting clean and green. According to Japanese newspaper report a project worth of 2.75 billion dollar has been launched to turn Fukushima into renewable energy source.
It has been planned that eleven solar power plants along with ten wind mills would be set up in the hilly area and in the farmlands that have gone useless and cannot be cultivate due to the nuclear disaster which took place in 2011. It is estimated that when this project will run on its full speed it will generate two third energy as compared to a nuclear power plant.
The main source of energy is from fossil fuels such as oil. The total consumption is too high and the renewable energy contribution is only 10%, this is very less amount for a developed country. Where nuclear disaster is still not healed, a tsunami hit the east coast of japan, the water went into the Power Plant, which caused the, meltdown of three reactor. And this became the severest nuclear disaster.
The water in the tanks has become irradiated though the process of cleaning the plant is in process but it is expected that this will last for several decades. The greatest challenge is to remove tons of radioactive water which is stored in the facility. There are some options like evaporating the water, injecting it underground or disposing it slowly to the Pacific Ocean, what so ever be the case this process is going to take years or even decades to clean the site.
It is highly appreciated that steps for generating renewable sources of energy are being taken but the fact that the damage done due to the nuclear disaster will take endless time to heal.
