The Pandemic Drives Long-term Unemployment in Thailand

On Tuesday, the National Statistical Office of Thailand announced that the number of unemployed people for more than a year has risen sharply since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic in January 2020.

The director of NSOT, Piyanuch Wutthisorn, said that the long-term group of unemployed people in the country had risen to 118,000 people in the last quarter of 2021 as compared to the 35,000 people in the same period the year before.
