It’s already bad enough that we are consumed in the digital world and all the technologies and gadgets around us. Yet, we still tend to add television screens at our bedrooms and even at our kids’. However, only recently a study published in the Pediatric Research, has showed that owning a television in your kids’ bedroom will affect your child’s development due to the lack of essential activities that he will meet.
At this state and age, children need to perform a lot of activities that will help them with their development in terms of their personality. Furthermore, long periods of time in front of the TV will affect them negatively in their habits, eating style, socio-emotional skills and body mass.
Lina Pagani, the author of the published study, who is a professor at UdeM’s School of Psycho-Education discussed the details stating, ”The early years are a critical period in a child’s development. With TV being their most common pastime, it’s clear that the many hours they spend in front of the screen is having an effect on their growth and development, especially if the TV is in a private place like the bedroom.”
The study contained an experiment that studied the body mass index of children who spent a lot of their time in front of the TV, compared with other active children and teenagers. This study was inspired from another similar study conducted in France. The results showed a decrease in the body mass value which is very unhealthy for young aged children.
