Authorities in Germany have concluded that algal blooms in the Oder River are the likely cause of a massive fish kill there

The widespread mortality of fish in the Oder River has been attributed by German scientists to an algal bloom brought on by an excess of salt. The environmental organization Greenpeace has more solid theories about where it's coming from.

German environmental authorities said in a report released on Friday that an alga that thrives in brackish water was likely to blame for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of fish in the River ....
