Fine particle air pollution caused 238,000 premature deaths in the European Union in 2020, according to the bloc's environmental authority, a modest increase over the previous year. Simultaneously, the total rate for EU nations in 2020 was 45 percent lower than in 2005, according to the agency, which added that "if this pace of fall is maintained, the EU will attain zero pollution action plan aim before 2030."
