The Queen Elizabeth is in preparation to step down from the royal duties from April 2021, as she turns 95. It seems to be an appropriate time for her to retire from public life like Prince Philip, her husband did in 2017 when he turned 96.
The Queen is set to retire from her duties and passing them on to her eldest son, Prince Charles, according to British media reports. She has already cut down her public appearance, long travels, and other royal duties. The Queen cannot retire completely without abdicating the throne as per the royal succession rules, but she can reduce her public responsibilities due to health concerns. The Prince Regent will then step in to fulfill the royal duties, while the Queen continues to remain the monarch. The Prince will be expected to fulfill all day-to-day affairs of the Palace.
According to the reports, Prince Charles has also visited his father, Prince Philip recently, at the Norfolk estate where Prince Philip spends most of his time to seek advice over Prince Andrew. He was also responsible in the Queen’s decision of banning Prince Andrew from royal duties after his explosive interview to BBC about his relationship with a convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Royal biographer Christopher Wilson said that Prince Philip has been a “guiding hand and the disciplinarian” for the Buckingham Palace. He also added that the Palace has been drifting without his presence. Now Prince Charles seems to take over that role.
