Singapore's crime rate increased by 30% in 2021 and 50% since 2013 - and technology is to blame

In Singapore, 847 crimes per 100,000 people were reported in 2021. In comparison to the West, where this figure is a few times greater in the vast majority of countries, this is still small.

Nonetheless, it is significantly higher than the 656 in 2020 and the 555 in 2013. It had remained around 600 for the previous decade, so even last year's score — which coincided with the pandemic — was already exceptionally high.<....
