On Wednesday, member-states of seven southern European Union signed and agreed to a memorandum of understanding focusing on closer collaboration which centers on emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, cryptocurrency and blockchain. In the latest announcement, countries such as Cyprus, Portugal, Italy, France, Greece, Spain and Malta have agreed to explore the possible advantages of cross-border distributed ledger technologies projects. Furthermore, the event will also encourage sharing of best practices in application of distributed ledger technologies. The memorandum was part of the South EU Telecommunications Ministers Summit. Malta played the host for the event. Furthermore, the agreement initiates the understanding of a framework to share best practices within design and application of distributed ledger technologies taking place at a governmental level between Southern European countries. Reports allege, an expert group will further help with the intended initiatives.
