Typhoon Lan moved northward over the Sea of Japan on Wednesday after bringing torrential rainfall to western regions of Japan, injuring 49 people and disrupting train service during the summer vacation season.

Due to heavy rain in central Japan, direct bullet train service between the capital and Hakata in southwestern Japan was temporarily suspended on Wednesday, but later resumed.
