The goal of the move is to cut down on the 700,000 tons of clothes that French people throw away every year, of which two-thirds end up in dumps. Under the plan, customers will be able to get 7 euros for fixing a heel and 10–25 euros for fixing clothes.
The French government said that starting in October, people will get a bonus if they get their clothes and shoes fixed instead of putting them away.
